Trip Overview
If you’d like to experience the drama and beauty of the Ceremonial Inca Trail to Machu Picchu but feel that 4 days trekking is a bit much then perhaps our ‘Shorter Inca Trail’ is for you.

Day 1 Inca Trail to Machu Picchu (L,D) You’ll be collected from your hotel in Cusco or The Sacred Valley of the Incas for transfer to the train station. We’ll board the train that will take us to km.104 (trailhead) on the Cusco – Machupicchu railroad. We start by visiting the Chachabamba archaeological complex (2150m/7052ft), located very close to the control point. Then, we go up. Embark on an 8 km (5 mile) ascending trail in route to the archaeological complex of Wiñaywayna (2650m/8692ft). It’s an impressive complex made up of an agricultural center, numerous terraces, a religious sector and an urban sector. On the hike enjoy magnificent views of the Urubamba River valley and the Choquesuysuy archaeological complex located on the other side of the river.

After a superb box lunch in Wiñay Huayna we continue through the cloud forest full of bromeliads, orchids and ferns. From Wiñay Huayna to Machu Picchu you are retracing the footsteps of the Inca, as it is all original Ceremonial Inca Trail construction.

As our trek continues we arrive to and climb the “Intipunku”, or Sun Gate. This is our first chance to see the Inca Citadel of Machu Picchu from a distance. From Intipunku we descend to Machu Picchu, have a few minutes for pictures and then down to Aguas Calientes by local shuttle.

Meals: Lunch (box-lunch), Dinner, Breakfast Total distance: 13 km (8,08 miles) Estimated walking time: 6-7 hours Maximum altitude point: 2,650 m (8,692 ft) Lunch stop altitude: 2,400 m (7,872 ft) Accommodation: 3 Star Hotel (1 nt)

Day 2 Machu Picchu / Cusco (B) Today begins with an early morning start after breakfast from Aguas Calientes. We’ll jump on the local shuttle and travel 1/2 hour to the principal entrance of Machu Picchu. The shuttle ride itself is breathtaking, but only an entrée of things to come! Enjoy the ruins in virtual solitude for the first hour until sunrise. Then a private guided tour Machu Picchu will take you to the main sectors and highlights of the Citadel. Following the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore, rest, meditate or simply chill out in the archaeological complex.

There are options to climb Huayna Picchu (must advise ahead of time to get entrance tickets), hike to the Moon Temple (21/2 hrs), or venture to the Inca Draw Bridge! There is no shortage of things so see and do in Machu Picchu. Generally we’ll have lunch in Aguas Calientes although it is your choice. Once back in Aguas Calientes, we’ll catch the afternoon train to Ollantaytambo and transfer to your hotel in Cusco.

Adventures to Peru services end upon arrival to your hotel in Cusco.
